BK Hariprasad Appointed as Karnataka Congress President

The Congress party appointed senior leader BK Hariprasad as the president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Hariprasad succeeds DK Shivakumar, who recently vacated the organizational post.

The appointment of Hariprasad was announced just hours after Shivakumar was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Karnataka. Shivakumar took the oath of office along with 13 cabinet ministers, marking a major leadership transition for the party in the state.

This organizational shift follows the resignation of Siddaramaiah from the chief minister's post on Thursday. Siddaramaiah stepped down following specific directions from the Congress party high command, paving the way for the new administrative and organizational setup.

In addition to his new role as the KPCC president, Hariprasad has also been named by the party as the official Congress candidate for the upcoming Karnataka Legislative Council election.

The official decision was communicated by All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary for organisation, KC Venugopal.

In an official statement, Venugopal confirmed the transition of leadership. "Congress president has appointed BK Hariprasad as the president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, with immediate effect," Venugopal said.

With this decision, Hariprasad officially assumes the leadership of the Congress party's state unit in Karnataka. The appointment is aimed at ensuring a smooth transition of power as Shivakumar transitions into his governance role as the state's chief minister.
