BJP Accuses Congress of Delaying Greater Bengaluru Authority Elections

On Sunday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a sharp attack against the Congress-led state government, accusing it of making repeated attempts to postpone the upcoming Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) elections. The opposition party alleged that the ruling Congress is actively seeking to delay the civic polls in Bengaluru because it fears a major defeat at the hands of the electorate.
In a detailed social media post, the BJP claimed that the state government has recently approached the Supreme Court of India to secure a deferment of the local body elections. According to the opposition, this legal move was prompted by an internal survey, which reportedly indicated a clear and imminent defeat for the Congress party if the elections were to be held now.
The BJP further alleged that the Congress had previously hoped to split Bengaluru into five distinct city corporations. By dividing the city, the ruling party allegedly aimed to secure a majority and win in at least one or two of these newly proposed corporations. However, BJP sources stated that the government is now attempting to use the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls as a convenient pretext to delay the GBA polls further.
Alongside the election delay allegations, BJP leaders strongly criticized Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. The opposition pointed out that his highly publicized promise to transform the state capital into "Brand Bengaluru" has failed to materialize and remains only on paper.
Instead of the promised development, the saffron party alleged that the city has deteriorated into "Bad Bengaluru." They pointed to worsening civic issues, specifically highlighting the presence of numerous potholes across city roads and widespread garbage accumulation, which they claimed is a direct result of a lack of government funds.
BJP sources concluded that facing the public under these circumstances would make a Congress defeat certain and inevitable, which is why the government is allegedly desperate to defer the GBA elections.
