Bescom Launches Online Name Change Service for Power Connections in Bengaluru

Energy Minister K J George on Thursday launched a fully digital name-change facility for electricity consumers across urban areas in the Greater Bengaluru Area and seven other districts under Bangalore Electricity Supply Company limits.

The new system makes Bescom the first power distribution utility in India to fully digitise the ownership transfer process for electricity connections, allowing consumers to complete the entire procedure without visiting sub-divisional offices.

Under the new service, consumers can submit applications, upload required information, execute e-stamping, and complete e-signing directly through the Bescom Web Self-Service portal. Once the process is finished, users can immediately download their e-signed documents and an official confirmation memorandum online.

The service eliminates the requirement for physical documentation, including physical sale deeds, property tax receipts, indemnity bonds, no-objection certificates, and supply agreements. Consumers are required to pay a processing fee of Rs 100 alongside Rs 1,194 for e-stamp and e-sign charges directly through the web portal.

Speaking at the launch, George said the initiative uses information technology to deliver transparent and high-quality services directly to consumers. He noted that the facility covers property owners with Greater Bengaluru Area e-khata mutations, as well as property owners with or without an e-PID outside the Greater Bengaluru Area.

George also announced that the state government plans to expand the online ownership transfer facility to rural areas across Bescom jurisdiction and to other electricity supply companies across Karnataka in the coming days.

According to Bescom, the digital transfer system had already been implemented on a pilot basis prior to the formal launch, during which it successfully processed more than 31,000 digital name changes.
