Bescom Assures Bengaluru Tenants Gruha Jyothi Scheme Benefits Will Not Be Disrupted

The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (Bescom) has assured tenants across Bengaluru that their free electricity benefits under the state government’s Gruha Jyothi scheme will not be disrupted during the ongoing beneficiary verification drive. The verification drive, which officially commenced on July 1, is aimed at updating Aadhaar details based on the current occupants of residential properties.

The clarification from the utility provider comes after many tenants in the city expressed concerns that they could lose their free power benefits. This anxiety arose because numerous electricity connections in rental properties still carried the Aadhaar details of previous tenants who had since vacated the premises.

Bescom has clarified that its field staff will only update the beneficiary details according to the current occupancy of the homes. The utility provider emphasized that this administrative process will not interrupt or discontinue the free power scheme. According to Bescom, the benefits will continue without any disruption both during and after the verification process is completed.

To make the update process convenient for residents, Bescom stated that consumers do not need to visit any Bescom offices or strive to complete additional formalities on their own. Instead, meter readers and field staff are conducting a door-to-door survey to update the official records, which includes checking rental or lease agreement details.

Beneficiaries have been asked to keep their required documents ready and cooperate with the visiting survey teams. Furthermore, house owners have also been requested to assist their tenants during this verification process to ensure a smooth transition of the records.
