Bengaluru Woman and Son Arrested for Murder of 75-Year-Old Mother Over Property

A 75-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death with a wooden stick by her daughter and grandson in Bengaluru on the night of Sunday, June 21. The fatal assault reportedly followed a heated argument over the sale of family property.

The Bengaluru Police have arrested the victim’s daughter, Bhagyalakshmi, and her grandson, Vikas, in connection with the murder. Both suspects are currently in police custody as investigators continue their probe into the incident.

The victim has been identified by the authorities as Jayamma. According to preliminary inquiries conducted by the police, the family members struggled with alcohol addiction. Investigators revealed that the suspects had allegedly been selling off family property to fund their drinking habits, which had become a source of ongoing tension.

The conflict peaked on Sunday night when a dispute erupted between Jayamma and Bhagyalakshmi regarding the sale of family property. The argument quickly escalated, prompting Vikas to join the confrontation against his grandmother. During the physical altercation, the mother and son duo allegedly attacked Jayamma with a wooden stick commonly used for preparing ragi mudde, a traditional local dish. The severe assault resulted in her death.

Following the killing, the accused allegedly attempted to conceal the crime and refrained from informing neighbors or emergency services. A few hours after the incident, Vikas reportedly contacted a friend, claiming that his grandmother had died and that he was deeply distressed. He asked the friend to bring alcohol to the house.

When the friend arrived at the residence to join Vikas for a drinking session, he noticed Jayamma's body. Realizing the suspicious nature of her death, the friend immediately contacted the local police.

Officers arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the alert, uncovered the murder, and initiated a formal investigation. Bhagyalakshmi and Vikas were arrested at the spot. Police officials have stated that a further investigation is underway to gather more evidence.
