Bengaluru to Open 10.3km Bicycle Track Along Magadi Road-Mysuru Road Corridor

Bengaluru is set to get a new 10.3km dedicated bicycle track running along the newly developed Major Arterial Road connecting Magadi Road and Mysuru Road. Developed by the Bangalore Development Authority, the continuous corridor is scheduled to be inaugurated on June 27 during the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Jayanti celebrations.
The bicycle lane is being built along the service road of the 11km Major Arterial Road. According to Bangalore Development Authority officials, the cycle track stretches across almost the entire length of the new corridor, providing a safer and more reliable option for cyclists.
Currently, road construction works are in an advanced stage. Officials stated that allied works such as the installation of road signages, lane markings, and the painting of underpasses are under way as the project enters its final phase. Barring the underpass stretch, the rest of the road features the dedicated bicycle lane.
The project is a significant development for Bengaluru’s cycling community, which has seen dedicated cycling infrastructure shrink over the years. The city had previously introduced bicycle lanes along the Outer Ring Road between Silk Board and KR Pura, as well as in parts of the central business district. However, much of that infrastructure disappeared after Namma Metro construction gathered pace along those corridors.
The Major Arterial Road is one of the city's most anticipated infrastructure projects, having faced years of delays before receiving a major push over the past year. The project was fast-tracked by Bangalore Development Authority Chairman NA Haris and Commissioner P Manivannan. It is also likely to be the first major infrastructure work inaugurated by Chief Minister DK Shivakumar after assuming office.
To pave the way for the project's completion, the Bangalore Development Authority completed several critical components. This includes an underpass beneath the busy railway line near Challaghatta. The new 10-lane corridor will allow an 80kmph cruise from Magadi Road to Mysuru Road with no toll.
