Bengaluru Techie Arrested for Baseball Bat Assault in AECS Layout

HAL police have arrested a software engineer, identified as Arun, for allegedly assaulting two other software engineers with a baseball bat in AECS Layout, Bengaluru. The incident occurred around 4 a.m. on August 6 near an ice cream parlour located in Block A of the neighborhood.

The victims in the case have been identified as Sandeep Kumar Gond and Rohith Kumar, both of whom work as software engineers. According to the First Information Report filed with the police, the two men were waiting near the ice cream parlour for a third friend to arrive when the accused approached them without any prior acquaintance or apparent reason.

The confrontation began when Arun allegedly addressed the two engineers in Kannada, asking them, “Are you terrorists?” In response to the question, Rohith informed the accused that they were Indian citizens. Arun then allegedly threatened the duo and demanded that they present their identity cards to him.

When Sandeep and Rohith questioned his authority to ask for their identification, the accused allegedly grew angry. The situation escalated as Arun began verbally abusing them before retrieving a baseball bat that was kept inside his car.

Seeing the escalation, Rohith attempted to document the confrontation by taking out his mobile phone to record. However, Arun allegedly struck the phone with the baseball bat. He then physically assaulted both victims, hitting them on their hands and legs with the bat and slapping them several times on their faces.

Following the complaint, HAL police registered an FIR and arrested Arun. Police officials noted that Arun had consumed alcohol on the night of the incident. Investigators stated that the assault allegedly occurred following a sudden provocation related to parking in the area.
