Bengaluru Smugglers Held for Hiding Rs 1.12 Crore Sandalwood Under Onions

BENGALURU — A smuggling attempt has been foiled in Bengaluru after individuals tried to transport a shipment of sandalwood valued at Rs 1.12 crore by hiding it under onions.

The suspects, who have been held by authorities, attempted to use the onions to mask the natural scent of the sandalwood. Sandalwood possesses a distinct fragrance, and the smugglers hoped that placing the wood beneath a large quantity of onions would cover up the scent and allow them to transport the contraband without detection.

Following the interception, the individuals responsible for the smuggling attempt were held by law enforcement. The incident was reported on October 27, 2025, marking a major seizure of the wood in the city.
