Bengaluru SIR Draft Roll Marks 45% of Voters in ASDD Category

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise conducted across Greater Bengaluru Authority limits has recognised only 56,99,660 voters, representing 54.87 percent of the electorate, while classifying 46,88,703 voters (45.13 percent) under the Absent, Shifted, Dead, Duplicate (ASDD) category.

The findings were announced by Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Chief Commissioner and District Election Officer M Maheshwar Rao following the publication of the draft electoral roll as part of the Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls–2026. The revision evaluated the earlier June 16 draft list, which had contained 1,03,88,363 voters.

According to the newly published draft electoral roll, the recognised electorate of 56,99,660 includes 27,69,866 male voters, 29,29,092 female voters, and 702 other and transgender voters. Prior to this exercise, a ward-wise voter list published on April 18 across five urban corporations had recorded 88,95,361 voters, but that list has been rendered obsolete with the inception of the SIR.

The draft electoral roll has been made available across all 28 Assembly Constituencies under the jurisdiction of the District Election Officer, Bengaluru. Copies have been placed at the offices of Electoral Registration Officers, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers, and Ward Offices, allowing citizens to inspect and verify their details.

Following the publication, citizens can submit claims and objections between August 24 and September 23. The authorities will issue notices and dispose of claims and objections between August 24 and October 22, with the final electoral roll scheduled for publication on October 27, 2026.

Maheshwar Rao stated that Electoral Registration Officers, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers, and Additional Assistant Electoral Registration Officers will issue notices in 24,05,044 cases to conduct enquiries. Notices will be personally served to the concerned voter or a resident family member at the registered address, and an acknowledgement signature will be collected.

For cases requiring physical verification, voters must attend the enquiry in person at the designated date and time, present the necessary documents, and sign an attendance register to retain their names on the voter list.
