Bengaluru Roads Near KR Pura and Whitefield to Close for Railway Work Next Week

Several major roads in Bengaluru's KR Pura and Whitefield areas will close next week to facilitate essential railway maintenance work. The South Western Railway (SWR) announced the temporary closures to allow for the replacement of a concrete slab at the Lowry Road underbridge (RUB) near the KR Pura railway station, leading to expected traffic disruptions for local commuters in these busy sectors.

The road closures are scheduled to begin on June 4 (Thursday) and will continue through June 9 (Tuesday). During this six-day period, the specific road stretch leading toward Ramamurthy Nagar and ITI Colony through the Lowry Road underbridge will be entirely closed to all vehicular traffic.

To manage the traffic flow and assist commuters, local authorities and railway officials have advised travelers to plan ahead and utilize alternative routes. Drivers trying to reach ITI Colony, Ramamurthy Nagar, and KR Pura during this period are directed to use the KR Pura cable-stayed bridge instead.

In addition to the underbridge closure, portions of the KR Pura-Whitefield stretch will also remain closed to the public. South Western Railway officials clarified that only a one-kilometer section of this stretch, measuring from KR Pura, will be affected by the closure. Commuters heading toward ITPL and Whitefield are instructed to use the cable-stayed bridge to reach their destinations.

Furthermore, a 500-meter section of the ITPL Main Road will undergo a temporary 12-hour closure. This specific shutdown is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m. on June 7 (Sunday) and will conclude at 6:00 a.m. on June 8 (Monday) to allow the work to progress.

South Western Railway officials stated that this overnight timing was chosen deliberately to minimize the disruption for employees commuting to work on Monday, given that the corridor serves several major technology parks. During this 12-hour window, traffic will be diverted through a temporary road provided near the Lowry Road underbridge.
