Bengaluru Records Hottest July Day in 112 Years at 33.6 Degrees Celsius

On Tuesday, Bengaluru recorded its hottest July day in 112 years as the maximum temperature reached 33.6 degrees Celsius. According to the Meteorological Department, the record-breaking weather was observed across the city, including at the HAL Airport and Kempegowda International Airport, as a weakened southwest monsoon pushed temperatures well above average.

The previous record for the hottest July day in Bengaluru was 33.3 degrees Celsius. This temperature was recorded twice in the city's history, first in 1914 and again in 1926. Tuesday's milestone of 33.6 degrees Celsius officially broke the 112-year-old record.

The average maximum temperature for Bengaluru during the month of July is typically around 28.3 degrees Celsius. The reading on Tuesday represents a significant deviation, measuring more than 5 degrees Celsius above the normal temperature for this time of the year.

This unusual rise in temperatures was not an isolated event confined to Bengaluru. The Meteorological Department reported that almost all districts across the state of Karnataka experienced maximum temperatures that ranged between 3 and 4 degrees Celsius above their normal averages.

Among the affected areas, Raichur recorded the highest overall temperature in the state, reaching 38.4 degrees Celsius. This marked an increase of 5.3 degrees Celsius above its normal maximum temperature of 33.1 degrees Celsius.

Other regions in the state, such as Gadag, Koppal, and Mysuru, also witnessed significantly elevated temperatures. In Mysuru, the maximum temperature rose to nearly 4 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average.

Meteorologists have attributed the unusual spike in heat to the weakening of the southwest monsoon. This weakening has led to a major reduction in rainfall activity across Karnataka. The Meteorological Department expects dry weather conditions to continue over most districts of North Interior Karnataka.
