Bengaluru Ranks 17th in Time Out Global Nightlife Index as Only Indian City

Bengaluru has secured the 17th spot in Time Out’s 2026 global nightlife rankings, emerging as the only Indian city to make the top 20 list. The recognition highlights the city’s thriving after-dark culture, which has expanded outward from long-standing nightlife hubs such as Koramangala, Indiranagar, and MG Road.

The global index was compiled using responses from more than 24,000 local residents across 150 cities worldwide. Survey participants assessed cities on multiple parameters, including overall nightlife quality, community feel, affordability, and the variety of after-dark experiences available.

Bengaluru recorded strong performances in social metrics, earning an 82 percent score for community feel and 71 percent for nightlife quality. Affordability was rated lower, registering at 54 percent. When evaluating specific experiences, street life proved to be the city’s most popular after-dark offering with backing from 55 percent of respondents, while casual bars followed closely behind at 50 percent.

According to Time Out, Bengaluru’s nightlife footprint has increasingly spread beyond traditional centres like Koramangala and Indiranagar to encompass newer neighbourhoods such as Ulsoor, Rajajinagar, and Whitefield. Venues including Bar Doubble, Dali & Gala, Bar Cameo, and Middle Room have contributed to the city's evolving cocktail, jazz, and intimate music scene, alongside a growing queer nightlife culture.

Responding to the ranking, Ananth Narayan, Bengaluru Chapter Head of the National Restaurant Association of India and founder of JustBLR, said the findings confirm the strength of the city's nightlife culture. Following the ranking, industry representatives have pushed for policy updates, including 24-hour operations for non-liquor food outlets, extending liquor service hours until 2:30 am, and the implementation of a genuine single-window clearance system for businesses.

Globally, Melbourne took the top spot in the 2026 rankings, followed by Shanghai in second place, Rio de Janeiro in third, New York City in fourth, and Manila in fifth.
