Bengaluru police sub-inspector Bhairappa KS arrested for dowry harassment and assault

A Bengaluru police sub-inspector, who previously served at the Subramanyapura Police Station, was arrested on Tuesday following allegations of domestic abuse, dowry harassment, and assaulting his father-in-law. The accused, Bhairappa KS, currently working at the Bengaluru Police Commissioner's Office, was taken into custody after his wife, an advocate, filed a complaint directly with the Director General of Police (DGP).
According to the complainant, the couple has been married for five years and has a three-year-old daughter. The wife alleged that Bhairappa repeatedly subjected her to physical and mental harassment, demanding Rs 50 lakh, a house, and a site from her family.
The demands for money reportedly intensified after Bhairappa was suspended last year in connection with an alleged Lokayukta bribery case while serving at the Subramanyapura Police Station in June. The wife claimed her father had previously purchased two cars and provided money on multiple occasions, but the harassment persisted.
The situation escalated on July 12, when the advocate's father visited their residence to mediate a domestic dispute. During the altercation, Bhairappa allegedly attacked his father-in-law with a machete. Despite calling the 112-emergency helpline, the complainant claimed no immediate action was taken at the time.
The wife also accused her husband of criminal intimidation, alleging he threatened to have her killed by criminals, cast baseless suspicions on her character, denied the paternity of their daughter, and maintained relationships with other women.
Furthermore, the complainant alleged that local police officers, who were batchmates of the accused, initially refused to register a First Information Report (FIR), filing only a Non-Cognisable Report (NCR) to shield him. This prompted her to approach the DGP directly.
Following her representation, the Bengaluru Police registered an FIR and arrested Bhairappa. A senior police officer confirmed that the accused sub-inspector is in custody and will be produced in court as a detailed investigation continues.
