Bengaluru Police Seize 290 Vehicles and Book 260 Drunk Drivers After RCB IPL Victory

The Bengaluru Police launched a massive overnight traffic enforcement crackdown across Bengaluru on Saturday night, targeting stunt riders, drunk drivers, and reckless traffic violators during celebrations following the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) IPL final victory.
As cricket fans took to the streets to celebrate the team's victory, police personnel of all ranks, alongside senior officers, were deployed on active patrol duty across the city. The special operation aimed to suppress dangerous driving and maintain public safety and order during the sports celebrations. The main goal of the enforcement drive was to ensure that the public celebrations remained safe and orderly.
According to Anoop A Shetty, deputy commissioner of police (traffic, west) and in-charge joint commissioner of police (traffic), authorities checked a total of 13,000 vehicles during the overnight drive. This extensive city-wide operation resulted in police booking over 260 drunk-driving cases and seizing 290 vehicles for various traffic violations.
As part of the focused special operation, officers specifically inspected 2,502 two-wheelers, 556 autorickshaws, and 458 four-wheelers. This targeted effort led to the direct seizure of 83 two-wheelers, three autorickshaws, and one four-wheeler after police took strict action against the violators.
The crackdown saw significant activity in the city's North division. North division police alone seized 75 vehicles during the drive. The seized vehicles in this division included 71 two-wheelers, three autorickshaws, and one car. These enforcement actions were carried out across the jurisdictions of 13 different local police stations.
Police officials stated that the seized vehicles were involved in hazardous and illegal activities on the road, including wheeling, triple riding, and other traffic violations. The heavy police presence and rigorous vehicle checks were maintained throughout the night to prevent these celebratory gatherings from escalating into safety hazards for the public.
