Bengaluru Police Restrict Autos and Goods Vehicles on Electronic City Flyover

The Bengaluru Traffic Police have restricted the movement of goods vehicles, two-wheelers, passenger autorickshaws, and three-wheeler goods autorickshaws across six major flyovers and elevated corridors in the city, including the Electronic City Elevated Corridor, citing road safety concerns and the need to reduce fatal accidents.

The new regulations on the Electronic City Elevated Corridor are scheduled to be implemented starting September 11. Restrictions on the other five corridors will take effect earlier, on September 4.

Those corridors include the BGS Flyover, the Peenya Elevated Corridor, the Double-Decker Flyover between Silk Board and Ragigudda, and the International Airport Road Elevated Corridor between Sanjeevnagar Cross and Vidyashilp Junction.

According to a press release issued by the Bengaluru Traffic Police, the decision was made after conducting a review of accidents occurring on the city's elevated infrastructure. The department stated that the measures were designed to ensure smoother traffic flow, reduce the severity of collisions, and enhance overall road safety.

Traffic police evaluated multiple operational and structural factors before imposing the vehicle bans. Key considerations included the specific design and lane width of the flyovers, the overall impact of severe crashes, and recurring traffic congestion triggered by vehicle breakdowns along these corridors.

Authorities also assessed traffic bottlenecks at critical entry and exit points, emergency vehicle management protocols, and the safety risks faced by pedestrians and two-wheeler riders. The restrictions are part of a broader road safety initiative by the traffic police to upgrade urban traffic management and protect commuters.
