Bengaluru Police Book JD(S) Facebook Page Managers Over Fake AI Video Of DK Shivakumar

The Sadashivnagar police in Bengaluru have registered a case against unidentified individuals following the publication of a defamatory post targeting Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on the official Facebook page of the Janata Dal (Secular) [JD(S)] party.
The police action was initiated based on a formal complaint lodged by a city-based advocate. Following the complaint, the police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under various sections of the Information Technology (IT) Act.
According to the complaint, the post was uploaded on the official JD(S) Facebook page under the tagline "Kumaraswamy For CM." It featured a fake video generated using artificial intelligence (AI). The video allegedly depicted Chief Minister DK Shivakumar moving around the city streets at night with a cloth wrapped around his face, pasting posters on a wall.
A senior police officer confirmed that the controversial video was deleted from the social media platform shortly after the FIR was registered at the police station.
An investigating officer stated that the police have issued a formal notice to the individuals responsible for managing the official JD(S) Facebook account. The notice directs the page administrators to provide comprehensive details regarding the post, the source of the AI-generated video, and the identities of the persons who uploaded the content to the page.
