Bengaluru man kills mother, grandmother and brother-in-law before dying by suicide

A 34-year-old driver allegedly killed his mother, grandmother, and brother-in-law with a machete before dying by suicide at their residence in Bengaluru. The incident, which took place during the night, was reported by the police on Saturday.

The police identified the accused as Prashant, who worked as a driver. The three victims were identified as his mother, 55-year-old Mangalamma, who was a garment factory worker; his grandmother, Nanjamma, who worked as a sweeper; and his 50-year-old brother-in-law, Satish, an unmarried plumber.

According to the preliminary investigation, Prashant allegedly attacked his three family members inside their home using a machete. After committing the murders, he reportedly attempted to flee the scene. However, local residents noticed him, caught him, and confined him back inside the house.

Once confined, Prashant is believed to have died by suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in one of the rooms. The police are currently verifying the exact sequence of these events, as reported by news agency IANS.

After being informed about the incident, Bengaluru police officers rushed to the residence to secure the scene and begin their investigation. The bodies of all four deceased individuals have been recovered and sent for a post-mortem examination.

The police confirmed that no suicide note was found at the residence. During their initial inquiries, officers learned that Prashant was reportedly suffering from mental health issues. Authorities are currently verifying his reported history of mental illness as a key part of their probe.

A case has been registered regarding the incident. The Bengaluru police are continuing their investigation to establish the exact sequence of events that led to the murders and the subsequent suicide, as the motive remains unknown.
