Bengaluru East City Corporation to Issue Notices Over Compound Wall Violations

The Bengaluru East City Corporation (BECC) has ordered its officials to identify residential and commercial buildings with compound walls that exceed the height limits prescribed under the National Building Code (NBC). During a review meeting held on Wednesday in Bengaluru, BECC Commissioner DS Ramesh directed the authorities to issue formal notices to the non-compliant property owners.
The directive aims to crack down on building bylaw violations across the corporation limits. Officials have been instructed to conduct thorough inspections of properties to detect compound walls that violate the NBC guidelines. Once identified, the owners of these residential and commercial structures will receive notices demanding compliance.
According to Commissioner Ramesh, the initiative is a key part of the corporation's broader efforts to manage urban infrastructure and improve public safety in the city.
In addition to addressing compound wall height violations, the commissioner also ordered the immediate identification of dilapidated and structurally unsafe buildings. These structures, which pose a direct threat to public life and property, will face strict action. The commissioner authorized officials to carry out demolitions of these unsafe buildings wherever required.
To ensure progress, officials must submit weekly reports detailing their inspections, notices issued, and any demolition actions taken. The review meeting where these directives were issued focused on the ongoing progress of various development and engineering works within the Bengaluru East City Corporation limits.
