Bengaluru Draft Electoral Roll Flags 46.88 Lakh Voters for Verification

Over 46.88 lakh voters across Bengaluru have been placed under verification categories in the draft electoral roll released following a Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The 46,88,703 flagged voters represent 45.13 per cent of the city's total electorate.

The figures were announced on Monday by District Election Officer and Greater Bengaluru Authority Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao. Officials clarified that the classification under the Absent, Shifted, Dead, Duplicate and Other (ASDD) categories does not constitute final deletion, but subjects names to scrutiny during the verification process.

Citizens have been given a one-month window from August 24 to September 23, 2026, to file claims and objections. The final electoral roll will be published on October 27, 2026, while the issuance of notices and disposal of cases will continue until October 22.

The draft roll currently features 56,99,660 voters, comprising 27,69,866 men, 29,29,092 women, and 702 voters from other and transgender categories. This represents 54.87 per cent of the 1,03,88,363 names registered in the electorate as of June 16, 2026.

Election authorities reported 24,05,044 ASDD and anomaly cases falling under the jurisdiction of Bengaluru’s four Additional District Election Officers. Electoral Registration Officers, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers, and Additional Assistant Electoral Registration Officers will issue formal notices requiring voters to appear on designated dates with supporting documents.

Notices may be delivered directly to the voter, a family member, or a resident at the recorded address against an acknowledgement signature. The presence of the voter during the enquiry is mandatory, and they must sign an attendance register to retain their enrolment.

Acceptable verification records include government or public sector identity cards, documents issued prior to July 1, 1987, birth certificates, passports, recognised educational certificates, permanent residence certificates, Forest Rights Certificates, caste certificates, applicable NRC records, family registers, and official land or house allotment certificates.

Following a rationalisation exercise across the 28 Assembly Constituencies, polling stations in Bengaluru have increased from 8,972 to 9,008 with 36 new stations created. Citizens turning 18 by October 1, 2026, can apply for enrolment using Form-6 online or through local registration officials.
