Bengaluru Children to Tour Vidhana Soudha on August 15 for Freedom Habba

Children in Bengaluru will be given an opportunity to step inside the Vidhana Soudha and experience its Grand Assembly Hall on Independence Day, August 15, as part of a city-wide celebration named Freedom Habba. Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda announced the initiative on Sunday, highlighting it as a unique chance for young citizens to observe the central institution where Karnataka’s democratic processes unfold.

The guided tours of Vidhana Soudha are structured as a family experience, allowing participating children to bring their parents along. Minister Byre Gowda stated that the visit is designed as a day-long event packed with tailored activities, moving beyond a simple walkthrough of the legislative complex.

Among the primary features of the day is the Makkala Mela, which will offer children interactive learning games, storytelling sessions, arts and crafts, creative workshops, and family-oriented activities.

To honor historical contributions, a special Children’s Freedom Village will be set up within the venue. The village will bring alive the memories of freedom fighters through live performers, interactive quizzes, learning modules, and instant rewards for participants.

Freedom Habba has been conceptualized as Bengaluru’s first-of-its-kind, people-led Independence Day event, transforming August 15 from a standard ceremonial occasion into an all-day public celebration. The festival will be hosted under the central theme “Namma Ooru. Nimma Ooru. Ellara Bengaluru.”

The event around Vidhana Soudha will gather families, local communities, artists, and citizens from across India. The venue will host cultural performances, the India Parade, regional cuisine stalls, craft displays, a Living Museum, music performances, and district-themed freedom struggle pavilions, alongside a designated Constitution Square.

While entry to the event is free, pre-registration is strictly mandatory for all attendees. Visitors are required to carry a valid government-issued ID card to gain access to the premises. Organizers have also requested that participants wear ethnic dress for the occasion.
