Bengaluru Al-Hind ISIS Case: Accused Syed Fasiur Rehaman Gets 7 Years in Jail

A Special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court has sentenced Syed Fasiur Rehaman, also known as Syed Faseeh Ur Rehman, to seven years of rigorous imprisonment in connection with the Bengaluru Al-Hind terror conspiracy case linked to the proscribed Islamic State (ISIS). The conspiracy meetings for the module were masterminded out of Gurappanapalya in Bengaluru.

Along with the prison term, the court imposed a fine of Rs 48,000 on Rehaman, the investigating agency announced on Sunday.

According to the NIA, the terror conspiracy was spearheaded by prime accused Mehaboob Pasha, who allegedly organized multiple meetings at his residence in Gurappanapalya, Bengaluru. The members of the group allegedly conspired to carry out targeted killings to incite communal riots and advance the agenda of ISIS, with the broader objective of establishing an ISIS or Daesh province (wilayah).

Investigators established that Rehaman actively participated in these conspiracy meetings. He also procured logistics, including tents and knives from a Decathlon Sports showroom, intended for jungle-camp training sessions for members of the Al-Hind group.

The case was originally registered by the Karnataka Police in Bengaluru on January 10, 2020. It was subsequently taken over and re-registered by the NIA on January 23, 2020, following orders from the central government. Over the course of the investigation, the NIA has filed three chargesheets against 20 accused individuals.

Earlier in the proceedings, another accused in the case, Haneef Khan, was convicted after entering a guilty plea during the trial. The NIA stated that efforts remain underway to track down an online handler who allegedly directed and established the module involved in the conspiracy.
