Belagavi youth Sahil Riyaz Ahmed Momin stabbed to death by roommate in Nepal

A 25-year-old youth from Khanapur, Belagavi, was allegedly stabbed to death by his roommate in Damak, Nepal, during the early hours of Friday. The victim, identified as Sahil Riyaz Ahmed Momin, was a resident of Muslim Ningapur Galli in Khanapur.

The suspect, identified as Saddam Hussain, a native of Uttar Pradesh, fled the scene after the attack. The Nepal police have registered a murder case against Hussain and launched a manhunt to apprehend him.

Sahil had previously worked in Dubai and Thailand before traveling to Damak, Nepal, about 25 days ago to work at a hotel. He was sharing accommodation with Hussain. A day prior to the incident, Sahil had invited a friend from Belagavi to join him for work at the same hotel, and the friend was staying in their room.

According to the police, an argument broke out between Sahil and Hussain on Thursday night. Although the dispute was temporarily resolved after the friend intervened, Hussain allegedly attacked Sahil with a knife at around 5:00 AM on Friday while Sahil was asleep.

Hussain stabbed Sahil in the abdomen and fled the premises. Upon hearing Sahil's cries for help, the friend attempted to chase the accused but was unsuccessful. Sahil was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Following the incident, Sahil's family approached Irfan Talikoti, the Taluka President of Anjuman-e-Islam and a local social activist, to seek assistance in bringing Sahil's body back to India. Talikoti met with senior police officials in Belagavi and coordinated with officials in Nepal to expedite the legal formalities.

On Saturday, Sahil's father, brother, and other relatives left for Nepal to receive the body. According to Talikoti, the mortal remains are expected to be flown to Hubballi, Goa, or Belagavi, depending on flight availability, before being transported to Khanapur by Monday.

Meanwhile, the Belagavi district police suspect that Hussain has fled towards Uttar Pradesh. They have shared the accused's photograph and other details with the Uttar Pradesh Police to assist in tracing and apprehending him.
