BDA to Begin Site Allotment in Karanth Layout on August 31 for 3,200 Landowners

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) is set to begin allotting sites in the Dr K Shivaram Karanth Layout in north Bengaluru on August 31, covering villages including Avalahalli, Ramagondanahalli, and Charakabandekaval. Around 18,000 sites are expected to be reserved as compensation for the 3,200 farmers and landowners who parted with their land for the project.

The long-delayed move comes after the High Court recently cleared the path for allotment. Spread across nearly 3,069 acres across 17 villages in north Bengaluru, the ambitious layout had remained entangled in legal disputes for more than a decade. The development of the layout was overseen by a three-member committee constituted by the Supreme Court.

According to BDA officials, between 600 and 1,000 landowners are likely to receive their site allotment documents symbolically from the Chief Minister on August 31. The remaining beneficiaries will receive their allotments through designated counters. In total, the layout features 34,992 sites of various dimensions that have been earmarked for land-givers.

Alongside the distribution of plots to farmers, the BDA also plans to launch the process of inviting applications from the general public on the same day. Residential sites in the layout have been priced at Rs 6,000 per square foot, an increase from the previously proposed rate of Rs 5,000 per square foot. Under this pricing structure, a standard 30x40 foot site will cost approximately Rs 72 lakh.

BDA Chairman NA Harris stated that land-givers in the first phase would be issued their rights, while the application process for the general public would also be initiated, subject to final approval from the Chief Minister.
