B-SMILE Awards ₹890 Crore Tender for Indiranagar-Silk Board Elevated Corridor

Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Limited (B-SMILE) has awarded the tender for the proposed elevated corridor running through Indiranagar 100 Feet Road to Silk Board, moving ahead with the project despite strong opposition from local residents.

The contract for the route was awarded to Haryana-based SP Singla Constructions Limited for ₹890 crore, which is ₹38 crore higher than the initial ₹852 crore estimate. The firm emerged as the lowest bidder for the stretch.

The planned corridor will begin at the Swami Vivekananda Metro Station on Old Madras Road, pass along Indiranagar 100 Feet Road, follow the Intermediate Ring Road, and continue along the Ejipura Road Flyover to Hosur Road before turning towards Silk Board. Existing infrastructure along the route, including the Domlur flyover and the long-delayed Ejipura flyover, is slated to be integrated into the new elevated corridor.

The project is being taken up under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode, where the State funds 100% of the cost while the contractor manages design, procurement, and construction. B-SMILE has pressed ahead with nine such elevated corridor tenders across the city at costs 2.5% to 4.97% above initial estimates.

Local residents have actively opposed the Indiranagar corridor, raising concerns over disruption to neighbourhoods, the impact on existing roads, and environmental damage. While the Detailed Project Report states that 235 trees will be affected, residents argue that more than 800 trees could be impacted by construction.

Defending the elevated corridors, B-SMILE technical director B.S. Prahallad stated that road widening is not feasible in Bengaluru, making elevated or underground networks necessary to manage traffic and vehicle growth. Addressing the objections to the stretch passing through Indiranagar 100 Feet Road, Prahallad noted that the alignment would be examined to determine the best approach.
