Auto Driver Arrested on Bannerghatta Road for Hitting Traffic Cop

An auto-rickshaw driver was chased and arrested after attempting to run over an on-duty traffic police head constable on Cave Temple Road, near Meenakshi Mall on Bannerghatta Road, within the Hulimavu traffic police limits on Wednesday night. The police head constable sustained a fracture in his right leg during the incident.
The incident took place around 8:30 pm when the accused auto driver, identified as Karthik, was engaged in an argument and fight with another auto driver following a minor road accident in the area.
Head Constable Manik Prabhu N Biradar from the Hulimavu traffic police, who was on duty at the location, intervened in the dispute. Because the parked vehicles and the altercation were obstructing traffic flow, the officer instructed both drivers to move their vehicles to the side of the road and asked them to produce their vehicle documents.
Instead of complying with the instructions, Karthik attempted to flee the scene. Despite having three passengers inside his auto-rickshaw at the time, he drove the vehicle directly at the head constable and tried to run him over before speeding away. The collision caused a bone fracture to Biradar's right leg.
Despite the injury, Biradar pursued the fleeing auto-rickshaw with the assistance of members of the public who were present at the scene. They caught up with the vehicle, and the driver was apprehended.
Following the incident, Biradar filed a formal complaint. Police have registered a case against Karthik under Section 132 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of duty, alongside other relevant provisions of the law.
