Ananthanagar Residents Protest After 32-Year-Old Woman Dies in Road Accident

Over 100 residents staged a protest in Ananthanagar on Wednesday night following the death of a 32-year-old woman in a road accident near the area, within the limits of the Electronics City Traffic Police Station.

The victim was identified as Medha, a native of Kerala, who worked at the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) in Electronics City.

According to the police, the fatal accident occurred around 9 a.m. on Wednesday while Medha was commuting to work as a pillion rider on a scooter operated by her colleague, Ajay Guru. The two-wheeler went out of control after a car travelling ahead applied its brakes suddenly to avoid a pedestrian crossing the road.

Medha fell off the scooter onto the road, where a mini goods vehicle travelling from the opposite direction ran over her head. She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where medical staff declared her brought dead.

The driver of the mini goods vehicle fled the scene following the incident. Police officials stated that a case has been registered and the vehicle's registration number has been traced, adding that the driver is likely to be arrested soon.

A senior police officer stated that while the stretch contains several potholes, there were no potholes at the exact spot where the collision happened. The officer clarified that the accident occurred after the scooter rider braked suddenly rather than as a direct result of a pothole.

Later on Wednesday night, more than 100 residents gathered to protest, raising concerns over road infrastructure and pothole-ridden stretches in Electronics City and neighbouring areas. Demonstrators held a candlelight march and used mobile phone flashlights, demanding that authorities carry out immediate repairs on the local roads.
