Amruthahalli sub-inspector arrested for alleged sexual abuse of minors

A police sub-inspector attached to the Amruthahalli Police Station in Bengaluru was arrested on June 29, 2026, after being booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. The officer, identified as Praveen, is accused of sexually abusing minor boys under the guise of an interrogation process.

The alleged abuse took place approximately one year prior to the arrest. At the time of the incident, the accused sub-inspector had detained the minor boys in connection with an ongoing murder investigation. Instead of conducting a standard inquiry, Praveen allegedly took the victims to a local lodge.

While at the lodge, the officer allegedly assaulted the minor boys and forced them to perform obscene acts. He is also accused of using his mobile phone to record video footage of the abuse.

The incident remained hidden until video clips of the alleged sexual abuse recently surfaced and began circulating on various social media platforms. The emergence of these videos prompted immediate action from the local authorities.

Following the online circulation of the footage, the Amruthahalli police registered a suo motu case against the officer. The case was registered under the provisions of the POCSO Act, 2012, as well as the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015. To ensure an impartial inquiry, the investigation was subsequently transferred from the Amruthahalli jurisdiction to the Kothanur Police Station.

According to sources within the police department, investigators suspect that the recorded videos were copied from Praveen’s mobile phone during a domestic dispute before they were leaked online. However, the police have not officially confirmed the identity of the person who leaked the videos.

Following his arrest on June 29, Praveen was produced before a local court, which remanded him to police custody for further interrogation. In addition to the action taken against the sub-inspector, police constable Raghavendra, who is accused of assisting the officer during the incident, has been placed under suspension. The Kothanur police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
