88 Faculty Members Permanently Absorbed into Maharani Cluster University

Seven years after its establishment, Maharani Cluster University has permanently absorbed 88 faculty members into its rolls based on representations submitted by the staff.
The faculty members who opted to remain with the university have now been merged into its rolls. In contrast, around 40 other faculty members have sought transfers out of the university and will be accommodated through separate government orders.
The absorption move remains subject to the final decision of a Cabinet sub-committee. In addition, the continuation of 12 faculty members serving beyond the age of 60 remains subject to the outcome of pending court cases.
Acting Vice-Chancellor KY Narayanaswamy said the faculty merger removes a major hurdle to the university’s functioning. He urged the government to constitute a search committee and appoint a permanent Vice-Chancellor for the institution.
Maharani Cluster University has been without a permanent Vice-Chancellor for 21 months, with six acting Vice-Chancellors serving during this period. The Governor has also written to the government seeking the formation of a search committee.
Vice-Chancellor posts at Nrupathunga University, Maharani Cluster University, and Mandya University have remained vacant since November 2024, even as a Cabinet sub-committee looking at newly-created universities is yet to submit its report.
