3,976 Arkavathy Layout Allottees Get Site Registration, 1,119 Awaiting: DK Shivakumar

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has completed site registrations for 3,976 allottees in Arkavathy Layout in Bengaluru, while 1,119 allottees are still waiting for registration, Chief Minister DK Shivakumar stated on Thursday.

Responding in writing to a question raised by MLC SL Bhoje Gowda, Shivakumar explained that the registration of the remaining sites has been delayed because landowners approached the courts over land acquisition. Several related cases are currently pending before the Justice KN Keshavanarayana committee.

According to the response, the BDA initially issued a preliminary notification on February 3, 2003, to acquire around 3,839 acres for Arkavathy Layout. A final notification followed in February 2004 for 2,750 acres, which was subsequently revised in June 2014 to cover roughly 1,766 acres.

Although the government originally planned to allot 20,000 sites in the layout, only 8,711 sites were allotted in 2006. Those allotments generated Rs 225.02 crore in revenue.

The CM's reply also noted that 983 acres and 33 guntas were excluded from the revised final notification. This comprised 83 acres and eight guntas dropped following High Court orders, 198 acres and 20 guntas excluded under Section 48(1) of the Land Acquisition Act, 1894, and 702 acres and five guntas excluded pursuant to Karnataka High Court and Supreme Court directives.

To address the shortage of sites for Arkavathy allottees, the BDA has so far allotted 3,090 alternative sites in Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout.
