23-Year-Old Arrested for Killing Stepfather in Bengaluru's Shivapura

A 23-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly attacked and killed his stepfather during a domestic altercation in the Shivapura area of Bengaluru on Tuesday night. Police reported that the incident took place when the victim, who was in an inebriated state, attempted to abuse and attack the accused's mother.

The accused has been identified by the police as Uday Kumar, while the deceased was identified as Sridhar. According to investigators, Sridhar, who worked as a journalist, had married Uday's mother, Deena, approximately 22 years ago following her separation from her first husband.

Uday, who is Deena's son from her first marriage, lived in the Shivapura household with the couple and Sridhar's two children, Darshan and Kanchana. Police officials noted that Sridhar had a history of alcohol abuse and would frequently cause disturbances at home after consuming alcohol. He was also accused of physically assaulting his wife during such domestic quarrels.

The situation escalated on Tuesday night when Sridhar reportedly picked up a pair of scissors and attempted to attack Deena. Seeing the assault unfold, Uday intervened to protect his mother and struck Sridhar three times with a motorcycle shock absorber.

Sridhar suffered severe injuries in the attack and was rushed to BGS Hospital for emergency medical treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Following the incident, the Madanayakanahalli police registered a case and took Uday into custody. The victim's body was later shifted to Victoria Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Police officials confirmed that they have conducted a spot inspection at the residence and are continuing their investigation into the matter.
