13 Karnataka Residents Stranded in Nepal and Tibet After Flash Floods: CMO

Thirteen residents from Karnataka have been stranded in Nepal and Tibet following massive flash floods in the Himalayan nation, according to information released by the Chief Minister's Office.

The flash floods in Nepal have caused widespread destruction, with the overall death toll rising to 359 people, according to police and local authorities. Emergency rescue teams and local authorities in Nepal are continuing search operations to trace hundreds of missing individuals, including more than 300 Indian tourists who remain unaccounted for in the affected regions.

In response to the emergency, the Ministry of External Affairs has established a Special Control Room to monitor the crisis and coordinate relief operations. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stated that India is making urgent efforts to ascertain the status and safety of Indian nationals stranded across Nepal.

The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu has set up emergency communication channels and issued helpline numbers for citizens seeking assistance or information regarding stranded relatives. Individuals can reach embassy officials at +977 985 131 6807 or +977 970 910 7500.

Rescue operations across the flood-hit zones have led to the evacuation of several stranded groups, including twenty-one Indian nationals from Tamil Nadu who were successfully rescued from floodwaters, the Ministry of External Affairs reported. Meanwhile, officials noted that an NRI couple from Odisha remains missing following the disaster.

State governments across India have initiated contact with citizens caught in the crisis, with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also speaking directly with tourists stranded in Nepal via video call to assess their condition as relief operations continue.
